Discover the ancient Korean technique of Keum Boo, a traditional method of applying gold leaf to silver and other metals. This hands-on workshop is designed for jewellers, metal artists, and enthusiasts eager to expand their skill set and incorporate luxurious gold accents into their work. Participants will learn the history, materials, and step-by-step process of Keum Boo, gaining both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
This is a hands-on workshop where participants will practice and create either a pendant or a pair of earrings of their own design using sterling silver and the Keum Boo technique, incorporating the skills learned in class.
Note: participants are to bring their own gold. Ideally 24ct (fine gold – works the best), but other carats can also be used.

- Materials and Tools: Get acquainted with the specific tools and materials needed for Keum Boo, including gold leaf, silver sheets, burnishers, and heat sources.
- Preparation of Metals: Learn the crucial steps in preparing your metal.
- Application Techniques: Master the process of fusing gold leaf to metal using heat and pressure, achieving a durable and visually striking bond.
- Finishing: Learn techniques for polishing and finishing your pieces without damaging the gold leaf.

- Sterling silver sheet 50x25x0.8mm
- Basic tools and equipment for Keum Boo
- Consumables (saw blades, solder, polishing compound)
- Light refreshment
Not included: GOLD
What to Bring:
- Gold! Ideally 24ct (fine) gold, because it works the best. However, we can also repurpose some of your old gold jewellery.
- Sketches or design ideas for your project (pendant or earrings)
- Enthusiasm and creativity
Minimum Numbers
This class requires a minimum of four students to go ahead. In the unlikely event minimum numbers are not reached, we will contact you with alternative dates to reschedule your booking.
Cancellation & Rescheduling
Due to limited availability in our private and group classes, all bookings are non-refundable. Rescheduling is also not possible, as the logistical arrangements and personalized focus of each class cater to small groups. The Metal Space is required to pay tutor fees regardless of attendance. If you fail to attend or miss your scheduled booking, you will not be eligible for a refund.
In the event this class is cancelled by The Metal Space for unforeseen reasons, the class fee will be refunded to the students.
Refunds are processed promptly by The Metal Space however we are not able to determine how long the financial institution may take to transfer. Please allow up to 10 business days for the refund to be processed.
Make up classes
If a class is missed for any reason, a make-up session cannot be offered. As a small school with a limited number of classes, we are unable to accommodate or cover the cost of a tutor for make-up sessions.
