Introduction to Sgraffito Enameling WAIT LIST

Discover the beautiful technique of sgraffito enamelling in this hands on, one day workshop.

Sgraffito is a decorative enamelling technique that involves scratching, drawing or removing areas of powdered enamel to reveal the contrasting surface beneath, creating intricate patterns, textures and imagery. Combining the spontaneity of drawing with the permanence of fired enamel, this technique offers endless possibilities for creative expression.

During the workshop, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of enamelling, learn how to prepare metal surfaces and apply enamel, and explore different ways of creating marks, patterns and designs using the sgraffito technique.

Through a series of demonstrations and practical exercises, you will experiment with layering colours, scratching through enamel and developing your own compositions. You will also learn about the firing process and how heat transforms the powdered enamel into a beautiful, glass-like surface.

By the end of the day, you will have created a collection of small enamelled samples and finished pieces, along with the skills and confidence to continue exploring this versatile technique in your own practice.

No previous enamelling experience is necessary. This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as makers looking to expand their knowledge of surface decoration and colour on metal.

Minimum Numbers

This class requires a minimum of four students to go ahead. In the unlikely event minimum numbers are not reached, we will contact you with alternative dates to reschedule your booking.

Cancellation & Rescheduling

Due to limited availability in our private and group classes, all bookings are non-refundable. Rescheduling is also not possible, as the logistical arrangements and personalized focus of each class cater to small groups. The Metal Space is required to pay tutor fees regardless of attendance. If you fail to attend or miss your scheduled booking, you will not be eligible for a refund.

In the event this class is cancelled by The Metal Space for unforeseen reasons, the class fee will be refunded to the students.

Refunds are processed promptly by The Metal Space however we are not able to determine how long the financial institution may take to transfer. Please allow up to 10 business days for the refund to be processed. 

Make up classes

If a class is missed for any reason, a make-up session cannot be offered. As a small school with a limited number of classes, we are unable to accommodate or cover the cost of a tutor for make-up sessions.
